Introduced: 1824
Cadbury was founded in 1824 when John Cadbury opened a grocer’s shop at 93 Bull Street, Birmingham, England. Among other things, he sold cocoa and drinking chocolate, which he prepared himself using a pestle and mortar. Now, the brand offers a host of delicious chocolates and drinks, including the Cadbury Egg, Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolates, Flake, Wispa, Twirl and Eclairs chocolates, and Cadbury Bourneville drinking chocolate.Quick Facts

1824
John Cadbury opened a grocery shop in Birmingham, U.K., selling, among other things, cocoa and drinking chocolate.

1866
Cadbury introduces Cocoa Essence, UK's first unadulterated cocoa. Cocoa Essence transforms a small business into the worldwide company that Cadbury is today.

1875
Cadbury makes its first Easter egg. The earliest eggs were made with dark chocolate and had a smooth, plain surface. They were filled with sugar-coated chocolate drops known as 'dragees’.

1905
Cadbury Dairy Milk sees the light! It was sold in unwrapped blocks that could be broken down into penny bars.

1938
Cadbury Roses are launched, named after the most popular flowers at the time.

1955
Cadbury’s first TV ad for Drinking Chocolate debuted on U.K.’s ITV channel.

1971
The Cadbury Creme Egg as we know it today hit the shelves.

1990
A visitor attraction, Cadbury World, is created to replace factory tours.

2008
Cadbury launches the Cadbury Cocoa Partnership to help cocoa farmers in Ghana, India, Indonesia and the Caribbean.

2010
