William Lawrence invents the first cream cheese in New York.

the Phenix Cheese Company of new York buys the Philadelphia trademark.
1920
Philadelphia gets an extended shelf life, preserved freshness and taste thanks to aluminum foil packaging.
1960
Philadelphia starts conquering Europe. It's introduced in the United Kingdom and in Germany the following year.
1980
Soft Philadelphia cream cheese in 8-ounce plastic tubs is introduced in test markets in both the U.S. and Canada. It is available nationally in the U.S. in 1981.
2012
dark, milk and white chocolate versions of Philadelphia – called Indulgence – were introduced to the U.S.
