History
1868
Jean Tobler owned his own confectionery shop in Bern, Switzerland, producing chocolate confectionery from products supplied by other manufacturers.
1899
demand for Tobler’s chocolate products was so great that Jean Tobler founded a chocolate factory of his own and establishes the “Fabrique de Chocolat Berne, Tobler & Cie”.
1908
After discovering white nougat, Theodor Tobler (Jean Tobler's son) and Emil Baumann (Theodor Tobler’s cousin) invent a unique chocolate bar, Toblerone! Its special recipe, triangular shape and instantly recognizable logo made it distinct.
1964
Toblerone is a featured attraction at the New York World’s Fair and then at the Expo in Montreal, Quebec, Canada three years later in 1967.
1969
Toblerone now becomes available in bittersweet, dark chocolate variety.
1970
The Matterhorn, Switzerland’s highest and most famous mountain, appears on the packaging on the the two triangles at both ends.
2008
Toblerone celebrates its 100th anniversary.
